FAQ Widgets That Deflect Support and Capture Demand
A good FAQ widget answers questions instantly and turns unanswered ones into qualified leads.
Your support inbox is full of pre-sales questions: pricing, comparisons, "do you support X?" Every one of those is a prospect — but they are being routed to support instead of sales.
The FAQ widget opportunity
A modern FAQ widget does two things at once:
- Deflects the 80% of questions that have known answers
- Captures the 20% that do not — as qualified leads
Old-school FAQ pages do neither. They are a wall of text nobody reads.
What "good" looks like
- Floating widget on every page (not buried in footer)
- Search-as-you-type with instant answers
- "Was this helpful?" feedback on every answer
- For unanswered queries: "Ask our team" → lead capture form
Content strategy
Mine three sources for questions:
- Support inbox — your last 90 days of tickets
- Sales calls — what does your team get asked on every demo?
- Search analytics — what people actually type into your site search
Each FAQ should be one question, one answer, ≤150 words. Long answers signal you do not actually understand the question.
The lead-capture moment
When the widget cannot answer, do not show "Sorry, no results." Show:

Conversion on this prompt typically runs 15–25% — far higher than a generic contact form.
Measure these
- Deflection rate: % of widget opens that did not result in a lead capture (good thing)
- Capture rate: % of "Ask our team" prompts that converted
- Top failed queries: questions you should add answers for
